Sophie Ball
Sophie completed a Master’s in Applied Sports Performance Analysis and has gone on to a career as an analyst with English Institute of Sport at British Cycling.
“My degree allowed me to gain valuable work experience at a young age in a highly competitive working environment and my Master’s has provided me with a larger number of opportunities in the job market and given me the skills required to complete my day to day job,” said the 24-year-old, of Manchester.
Sophie has gone on to a role with British Cycling as a Track Endurance Analyst and is currently working with both the women’s and men’s squads to help them prepare for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games this summer. She also sometimes helps to cover analysis work related to mountain biking and the road squads. Once Tokyo ends, Sophie is looking forward to working on World, European and Commonwealth Games alongside the Nations Cup competitions which ultimately lead through the next cycle to the Paris Olympics 2024.
Sophie came to the ºüÀêÊÓƵ as she was interested in the sports Master’s courses and managed to get a studentship with the ºüÀêÊÓƵ and Insight Analysis, working with the RFU (Rugby Football Union).
During her studies, she completed some analysis work to help the England Rugby Senior Men’s analysts in their preparation for the Six Nations, as well as working alongside the England Women’s analyst for their inaugural match against the Women’s Barbarians at Twickenham. This allowed her to be present at the Women’s match in the coaching box to assist. She also helped prepare the Women’s team for a tournament in San Francisco in the summer of 2019.
