Miranda Harris is a Senior Lecturer/Academic for Nutritional Therapy and Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine MSc. a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and a practising Registered Nutritionist (mBANT, CNHC) with over ten years of clinical experience specialising in sports and exercise nutrition, and long-term health conditions. In 2019 she was awarded the UoW Teaching Award and in 2020 and 2021, she was awarded Outstanding Lecturer. Miranda is a keen triathlete currently on her long journey to Iron(wo)man.

Teaching & Research

Miranda is the module lead for Research Methods NUTH4038/46 and the Dissertation module NUTH4039/47 and has responsibility for publishing student dissertations on the MSc Nutritional Therapy course as part of her academic contract. Miranda teaches Sports and Exercise Nutrition on NUTH4043 and BIOS 3302. Miranda is a member on the panel of Expert Reviewers for the Nutrition Evidence Database and is on the editorial board of the Nutritional Medicine Journal.

Collaborations

Miranda has recently published work on the following topics: nutritional knowledge, attitude and behaviour in adults with hypermobility syndrome, nutritional knowledge, attitude and behaviour in women with menopausal symptoms, the effect of a ketogenic diet on gut bacteria, the effects of probiotics on hypertension, COVID-19 and nutrition; an evaluation of a Multidisciplinary Programme for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Myalgic Encephalomyelitis and Fibromyalgia, the experiences of nutritional therapists in supporting people with cognitive concerns (from midlife) and the effects of low carbohydrate/high protein diets on cortisol and testosterone.

She is currently working on various collaborations with MSc students, including the effects of protein and carbohydrate supplements on cortisol and testosterone; the impact of a 14-day food programme on menopausal symptoms and the impact of an eight-week programme on subjective and objective health outcomes and behaviour change, the latter two which will contribute towards her PhD.

Research Interests

Evaluating online nutrition and lifestyle programmes for physical and mental health; knowledge, attitude and behaviour in various health conditions.
